In-home Euthanasia:
After scheduling an appointment, our doctor will come to your home and meet you and your family and pets. There will be some paperwork to go over before any medical procedures can be performed.
The doctor will do her very best to keep your fur baby calm and as stress-free as possible. In some cases she may have to sedate your pet especially if your pet is afraid or anxious and/or in pain. Sedation requires an injection so it is best if other fur babies in the home are properly restrained so that they do not come in contact with the doctor while she is handling syringes, needles, and pharmaceuticals.
Not all pets will require sedation. Some pets are in a state that it may be best to anesthetize in lieu of sedation. Every pet is different and the doctor will assess each pet accordingly.
The next step in the procedure is placement of an intravenous catheter in one of your pet's veins located in one of the distal limbs. Again, it is best if other fur babies in the home are restrained as the doctor will again be handling sharp needles. Once the catheter is placed, the doctor will proceed with administering the anesthetic called Propofol, through the intravenous catheter. This allows a plane of anesthesia so that your pet is unconscious and completely unaware of the next step.
The doctor always ensures that every pet is completely asleep before administering the last drug, pentobarbital. All pets will be either sedated and anesthetized, or anesthetized, before pentobarbital is ever administered. This will ensure a peaceful passing.
Aftercare:
If you choose to use our aftercare service, we will provide transport for cremation services after the euthanasia procedure.
We offer either group cremation where your pet is cremated with other fur babies and their ashes are spread, or individual cremation where your pet is cremated individually so that you can receive their ashes back in a beautiful cedar box.
A clay paw print is automatically included with individual cremation.
You may opt for a clay paw print with group cremation. There will be a separate fee for the paw print and it must be requested during the scheduling process.
Pets over 75 pounds-Transport for Aftercare:
Please be advised that for any pets between 75 pounds and 100 pounds, the doctor and her assistant will require you to provide two people to assist in lifting your pet into the doctor's vehicle after the euthanasia procedure.
For pets over 100 pounds, we will require you to provide 4 people to help the doctor and her assistant lift your pet into the doctor's vehicle after the euthanasia procedure.
We use a heavy duty stretcher with handles.
If you are unable to provide the required number of people to assist in lifting your pet that is over 75 pounds, please let us know at the time of scheduling. We will try our best to coordinate with the crematorium to send assistants to meet us at your home to assist in lifting for an additional fee.
If it is after 4pm, the crematoriums are closed and in that case we will do our best to contract out with a mobile cremation company for the aftercare for an additional fee. Again this is only if you are unable to provide assistance to lift your pet that is over 75 pounds after the euthanasia procedure.
